I think that my husband suffers from BDD, although he has never been diagnosed by a physician. He is obsessed about his receding hairline and is convinced that his torso is “disproportionate to the rest of his body.” He is a very attractive man and it is painful to see how much this is ruining his life. He has been on Prozac and Zoloft in the past for depression, but had some unpleasant side effects and is now nervous to try anything else. He is also hesitant about trying therapy because he thinks that no one will be able to convince him that he is not ugly. I'm not sure what to do at this point. Please help! Thank you, Dr. Jenike.
see earlier post about how to locate a BDD expert. medications may help and behavioral techniques can make a big difference also. the books by Drs. Wilhelm and Phillips are very good and helpful. there definitely is hope. all best wishes,
